The day after those fundamentalists encroached on liberty and our natural right to life, we are faced with a lot of uncertainties based on something that we all already knew. This world is no longer safe, this world has lost its innocence. We live in perrenial fear now that one day while we're walking down the road some person with an agenda that has nothing to do with us will affect our lives, maybe even take it. Noone who boarded the tube or the number 30 bus had any idea save for the perpetrators of this heinous crime. What is freedom, what is liberty for them at such a cost. Following a week in which finally the world was ready to take responsibilty for its poor this happens. It just makes it hard nowadays to put a smile on your face.
And those whose lives were snuffed away by those individuals with a thirst for innocent blood, they will not see the premiership, nor will they watch the British and Irish Lions tomorrow. They will not watch the world cup in 2006, they will not be at the Olympics in 2012. They will not hear the sound of music, they will never hear the pitter patter of little feet. They will never have the chance to make things right. They will never be happy or sad. They will never know the love for which they had potential. For the young they will never have the comfort of full lives. Mothers, Fathers, lovers, friends, cousins, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters are just a few of the relations that have been lost.
For us sitting here, the loss is a figure that pains us dearly, but what about the ones that were personally affected. The man who walked out of his house after having an argument with his wife and he was planning on making it right last night by taking her out. Little did he know that the last thing he had said to his wife was not what he wanted to have her remember about him. Think of a young man who has finally found a job and the opportunities that it came with. And because of this madness his potential is lost of the world. A young girl on her way for a presentation to get a spot at a university. She was probably going to find the cure/vaccine for AIDS. Gone. A great waste indeed.
Some people say you must understand that the people commiting these acts are merely responding to what the US/UK has been doing to them for years. And I say, there is no justification for the taking of innocent lives. It is cowardly and it hurts some of the people who perhaps did not agree with the hurting of innocents in Iraq/Afghanistan. Now our hearts have become hardened. We feel for our own and cannot even trust the innocents of those countries because we can no longer tell the difference between those that genuinely love us but those who pretend so us to gain our trust and kill us.
What do you expect us to do? Our way of life has been threatened. Certainly our feeling of security has been robbed from us. What do they expect us to do? To sit by while Bin Laden and his cohorts continue to pillage our virtues? The war on terror must be stepped up. There must be no negotations for these are individualswho are clearly heartless and hell bent on carnage. The only language they understand is the one they use. Where they make threats and carry out attacks on civilised existence. And as for any country that habours them, decisive action must be taken against them.
All we want is a chance at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and prosperity without fear of such tragedy. Not just for ourselves but those too who share our goals of peace, wherever they are.
God help us all!
